LTNF10
We are presently trying to manufacture a therapeutic that can provide treatment for various envenomation because any anti-venom that could accomplish this would have life-saving applications. Currently, the only way to synthesize antivenoms is in horses. Antivenoms produced this way are not sometimes the most optimal for medical treatment since some people are hypersensitive to horse proteins. There have been attempts to produce antivenoms that have broad spectrum protective antibodies, but this has not happened yet.
Research has shown that several warm-blooded animals, such as opossums, mongoose, honey badgers, and meerkats have demonstrated a remarkable resistance to the toxic action of bees, snakes, and scorpions.Knowing this our team examined Lethal Toxin-Neutralizing Factor, LNTF-10 which is a serum derivative of the Didelphis virginiana (opossum). LTNF-10 (Lethal Toxin-Neutralizing Factor) is a ten residue peptide that has been shown to neutralize toxins from snakes, scorpions, and bacteria. We have chosen to assemble this part inside of a bacteria model in order to remove the need of an opossum. Our part contains the LTNF-10 peptide as well as C-term Myc and 6xHis tags that can be used for purification and then later removed using the HRV (Human Rhinovirus) protease in the pSBC13 vector for assembly in Escherichia coli.
